It wasn’t until I met my partner, Dan, in Thailand some months later that I was introduced to the idea of being a location-independent digital nomad (and that being a real thing)…

Basically all this means is being able to make money online and work from anywhere, whether that be your home, local café or holiday apartment.

Remote OK is basically a complete search engine for all the online jobs going. It takes all the jobs categorized under “remote” from a number of different sources, displays them in an easy-to-find/read kind of way, and then links you back to the original source when you click.

Pieter Levels, creator of Remote OK, is a digital nomad himself. He travels the world whilst making money online, so he understands the need for more resources that can help remote workers and digital nomads find more opportunities.

This is a great place to start if you’re curious to find out what kind of online jobs are really available. Click here to earn money online while you travel with Remote OK.

So yes, if you are wondering, you can make money blogging.

3. Freelancer

If you’re looking for one-off freelance jobs to help fund your travels, Freelancer is a great place to start. Through this global marketplace, employers can hire freelancers to carry out work in a number of different areas.

As a freelancer, you can search through the lists of new opportunities (short-term online jobs) in your area of knowledge and then bid what you wish to charge to complete a project. The employer then chooses who they want to do the work, based on the bids and proposals they receive.

4. We Work Remotely

Similar to Remote OK, We Work Remotely is an online platform where you can find online jobs that are not restricted by commutes or geographic areas.

The online jobs mainly consist of web development, engineering and tech support, however there are also opportunities in content creation, design and marketing.

Most advertisers have their own independent application processes, so to apply, follow the instructions noted at the bottom of each ad. Click here to get searching for your first online job!

5. FlexJobs

FlexJobs hosts online job opportunities ranging from freelance all the way to full time. There are also over 150 internet job categories, so they’ve pretty much got something for everyone.

To make sure you don’t find yourself clicking on any nasty ads, they also screen all the job opportunities for legitimacy before posting. They say, “Anyone who wants a job with some kind of flexibility – a telecommuting, part-time, freelance, or flextime job, should apply for a remote job with FlexJobs.”

That goes for you wanderlusters too!

6. UpWork

Much like Freelancer, UpWork is a relatively new platform that connects freelancers (the do-ers) with employers (the ones needing work done).

The reason why we added UpWork to this list is because it is much less saturated with freelancers than Freelancer.com, meaning there is much less competition and more chance of receiving solid, ongoing work.

Generally speaking, UpWork has a more quality feel to it with more knowledgable and experienced freelancers signing up, which often means that the employers are willing to hand out online jobs with more substance and pay at a higher rate.
