[VLOG] Beach Chilling and Taxi Boat Rides in Ilha do Mel, Brazil

Well, our Rio vlogs are over (all 13 of them) but that’s not to say our Brazil vlogs are finished by any means! Now we’re starting in Curitiba, the capital city of ParanĂ¡, a state in the South of Brazil where Dan spent half of his childhood.

One of the first outings we had after arriving in Curitiba was to an island called Ilha do Mel, located about 95km away. We left early in the morning and it took us about 2 hours to drive as the scenic route takes you on a number of windy roads through the mountains.

Upon arrival at the departure area, we were taken in a mini-bus to purchase our tickets and then catch the 30 minute ferry over to the island. Naturally, the ferry takes you to the first part of the island which is called Brasilia (named after the Brazilian capital city). Then, if you want to visit the second part of the island, Encantadas (which I liked the most), you can take a short ride in a water taxi. From there, the ferry can take you back to mainland.

Ilha do Mel is pretty chilled out. You’ve got rugged beaches, caves, and lot’s of greenery. If you want to stay the night, there are plenty of pousadas located all around the island as well as a number of places to eat and drink. There’s even a church for hippies!

Take a look at what we got up to…
